Cookie Policy
This page explains which cookies highschoolhustle.org uses, what each one does, how long it lasts, and how to turn analytics off.
What this policy covers
This policy explains the cookies and similar technologies used on highschoolhustle.org. High School Hustle is a program of Sagamore Institute, Inc., a 501(c)(3) nonprofit based in Indianapolis, Indiana. The HSH Dashboard (hshdashboard.org) is a separate platform with its own sign-in and is not covered here. How we handle personal information more broadly is in our Privacy Policy.
What cookies are
A cookie is a small text file a website saves in your browser. Some are needed for the site to work. Others tell us how people use the site so we can make it better. We do not use cookies to advertise to you, and we do not sell or share cookie data with advertisers.
The cookies we use
Essential
These keep the site working and secure. They are always on because the site cannot run properly without them.
tuscan_consent remembers the choice you made about analytics cookies, so we do not ask you on every page. Lasts 1 year.
tuscan_geo stores your country region (for example, "EU" or "rest of world"), worked out from your connection, so we show the right cookie choices for where you are. It does not store your location or IP address. Lasts 6 hours.
_vcrcs is set by our hosting provider, Vercel, only if your browser is asked to pass a quick security check that protects the site from bots. Lasts about 1 hour.
Analytics
We use Google Analytics 4 to count visits and see which pages are useful. It tells us things like how many people visited a success story or where visitors came from. It does not tell us who you are.
_ga tells one visit apart from another. Lasts 2 years.
_ga_<ID> keeps track of your current session. Lasts 2 years.
These are only set if analytics is allowed (see "Your choices" below). When analytics is off, Google may still receive a basic signal that a page was viewed, without cookies and without identifiers, which helps us estimate traffic.
Videos and outside services
Videos on this site come from YouTube. They do not load, and YouTube sets no cookies, until you click play. Once you press play, YouTube (Google) may set its own cookies under Google's Privacy Policy.
Some buttons take you to other services: signing up (hshdashboard.org), booking a call (Calendly), donating (iDonate) and event tickets (Eventbrite). Those sites set their own cookies under their own policies once you arrive there.
Your choices
In the EU, EEA, UK and Switzerland: analytics cookies are off until you choose Accept in the cookie banner.
Everywhere else, including the United States: analytics is on by default and you will see a short notice. You can turn it off with Decline.
Global Privacy Control: if your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal, we treat it as an opt-out and keep analytics off automatically, even if you accepted before.
Change your mind any time: use the "Your Privacy Choices" link at the bottom of every page.
Browser settings: you can also block or delete cookies in your browser. Blocking essential cookies may stop parts of the site from working.
Students and minors
Many of our visitors are high school students. The website itself asks for no account and collects no student information through cookies. Student sign-up, parental consent and program data are handled on the HSH Dashboard under our Privacy Policy, which follows COPPA. Children under 13 may not use the HSH platform.
Changes to this policy
If we add or change a tool that sets cookies, we will update this page and the effective date at the top.
